Cyber Security Researcher

We are looking for a researcher with a strong academic background in IT and/or cybersecurity to join our team. The primary goal is to support the implementation of research and development projects, particularly within the framework of the European Defence Fund. We seek someone with a genuine interest in innovation and science, eager to learn and work on a broad range of topics in the IT/cyber field. The ideal candidate should be able to set research goals independently, propose solutions, and manage their workflow accordingly. Additionally, they should excel at engaging other technical experts to ensure optimal collaboration and results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in EU-funded research and development projects (European Defence Fund, Digital Europe, Horizon Europe, etc.).

  • Conduct necessary research and analysis for projects, including drafting required documentation and texts (e.g. state-of-the-art analysis, CONOPs, system requirements).

  • Contribute to development workflows (both SW and HW)

  • Collaborate with CR14 infrastructure engineers, software developers, and other technical teams. This includes gathering input to fulfill your tasks and, vice-versa, providing them with the required input or support to achieve their objectives.

  • Support project managers with technical and domain-specific expertise.

The ideal candidate

  • Has a Master’s degree in IT or related area (completed or in progress), preferably in cybersecurity.

  • Understands scientific research methodologies.

  • Excels in technical writing.

  • Possesses broad knowledge and interest in IT and cybersecurity across different topics, including but not limited to infrastructure, cyber ranges, threat intelligence, cyber situational awareness, and machine learning.

  • Demonstrates strong collaboration and communication skills.

  • Can effectively connect the dots between theoretical knowledge and practical outputs.

  • Shows a genuine interest in research and development.

  • Is eager to learn and explore new concepts, even if they don’t immediately result in a marketable product or direct end-user application.

  • Preferably, experience or knowledge regarding the defence/military and security sectors.

  • Works independently and is capable of setting and achieving goals.

  • Proficiency in English (at least C1 level), and Estonian language is a plus.

  • Willingness to apply for a security clearance.
